I finally got around to getting some work done on the book about our canoe trip down the Mississippi last week. It’s far too easy for me to let things slide for first a day, then a week, then a month… After procrastinating for so long, any progress is good progress, but I’m still peeved about taking my eye off the ball for so long.
It took us 73 days to paddle 2,350 miles down the Mississippi and Atchafalaya rivers, taking six days off on the process. We didn’t paddle a full day everyday, but even on the days that we got a late start or finished early, we still made some progress downriver.
With that in mind, I’m making a deal with myself to put my time in on getting the book out by the fall. Life happens, but I’m giving myself no more than six days off without touching anything.
I’m also choosing this week to quit drinking soda as well, so this should be interesting.

Hey. Just stumbled on the site looking for info on the Mississippi. I thought I had come up with a uniquely wild idea to canoe the whole thing….seems you’ve done it. Anyway, unless I have to read the book, I was interested in any info you might find helpful if ever the opportunity arises to try it. It would be nice to have a film producer sponsor a trip. Try backpacking Isle Royale in Lake Superior sometime.Thanks.
Benjamin,
The book’s been coming along again. Hope to get it out sometime in the next few months. I’d love to get up to Isle Royale sometime to go backpacking.
