The “Dead Zone” in the Gulf of Mexico continues to grow each year and excessive nutrients are sent downstream. It’s been estimated to cover over 8,500 square miles, or roughly the size of New Jersey. Here are some links with more info about the cause and effects of eutrophication in the Gulf.

Man, it’s going to be bad news for sure for a long, long time. I’m hoping that BP can get that thing shut down today, but even so, just the material in the water now is causing untold damages.
