Jess will be coordinating most of this year’s cleanup with the Neuse Riverkeeper Foundation, and I’ll be one of the site managers for the Milburnie Dam Section.

Visit the Neuse River Spring Cleanup page for up-to-minute details and update. Make sure to register for the event ahead of time and join their Facebook Event page. There will be a free cookout for volunteers at Anderson Point Park afterward starting about 2pm.

From the Neuse Riverkeeper Foundation:

The Foundation expects nearly 500 volunteers will participate this time, including youth groups, church groups, civic organizations, college students and river enthusiasts. The cleanup will cover nearly 50 miles of river between Falls Dam in North Raleigh and Smithfield Town Commons in Johnston County.This event has become the largest single river cleanup in the State; over the past 7 years the Cleanup has collected more than 113,505 lbs waste and involved 1,663 volunteers.

The weather forecast for this weekend is perfect for the Cleanup. 70 degrees and sunny. Make sure to wear sunscreen!

I put in at the Farrington Boat Access point, then headed Northeast for a couple of hours. Check out the bald eagle about 1:30 minutes into the video.

I’m at a public library in Goldsboro, and had about 30 minutes to do check email, post, etc. Both these videos are straight out of the camera, so no comments as the professionalinism (is that a word? I’m just speechless after watching this. It’s a 40-minute [...]]]> I ran across this video tonight while doing some research on waterproof cameras and camcorders for my upcoming trip down the Neuse River in North Carolina. Video is something I want to start doing on trips in a big way, but I’ve got a lot to learn.

I’m just speechless after watching this. It’s a 40-minute documentary of Drew and Peter Marshall’s four month canoe trip from Lake of the Woods Minnesota to Kugluktug on the Arctic Ocean. Do yourself a favor and watch this today.

It was always cool to [...]]]> Here’s a few of the bridges we paddled under while on the Mississippi and Atchafalaya rivers. I always looked forward to getting to a bridge. You could see many of them from miles away, but paddling close to them gave me a better perspective of the size of those things.

It was always cool to go under a bridge and watch the swallows fly out. Bridges were big honking landmarks that helped us keep track of the miles. Bridges sheltered us from both screaming thunderstorms and oppressive heat.

Yeah, I’m a huge fan of bridges.
