Long day. 27 miles. Listening to the barred owls now. I’m about to fall asleep writing this little note, so this’ll do it for now.
Take care,

Windy today, and a little frustating making time to be honest. Just 14 miles into Kinston, then ran errands and piddled for a few hours. 150 down, 50 to go. I’d love to have another month or two out here though.
Take care, -John

Great day on the river today. My thanks go out to Cal and Dave from the Twin Rivers Paddling Club for coming out and paddling today.
Paddled about 22 miles so far today , and will be putting in another 8 or so before camping tonight. Weather was beautiful, and I’m on track to teach [...]
Short day today. Been running errands in Goldsboro today, but had a huge day yesterday. Lots of rain so far, but cooler temps too.
Doing an interview later with the Goldsboro Times-Argus, and will post that link when I get it. Great name for a newspaper.
Paddling to Seven Springs tomorrow with members of the Twin Rivers [...]
This one’s short and sweet till I get to Goldsboro with a real cell signal. I hope you can hear that animal screaching in the background. Right now I’m in the middle of The Wild Kingdom, with beavers slapping the water, mosquitoes swarming my hammock, and random other critters running around.
31 miles paddled today, so [...]
Great day on the Neuse River. Paddled about 23 miles, and I’m smoked. Not much of a cell signal here, so I hope this makes it out.
Thanks again for the well-wishes. It keeps my mojo up!
Take care, -John

Just a quick note from the river. I’m finally underway and ready to get to paddlin’ onthe Neuse! www.SourcetoSea.net Thanks for all the support and emails. I really do appreciate it. Here’s hoping that Hurricane Danny stays out to sea for a bit. I like to apologize to the entire eastern seaboard ahead of time, because [...]
Just a quick update on where things stand with one week to go. Be on the lookout for the Source to Sea Project Facebook page on the next day or so.

Just cleaning up some files and ran across the podcasts I sent while paddling the Cape Fear River back in 2006. I’ll be doing something similar when I paddle down the Neuse River in a few weeks. Podcasts are a great way for me to give real-time info on what’s happening on a trip, and [...]
Just testing the configuration on my iPhone to website settings. If I can get this thing to fly, it opens up all kinds of possibilities for posting from the field. Good stuff!
I ran into the coolest podcast last week. This is a series of stories about Mississippi river rats who lived on the shores of the river way back when. Good stuff put out by Atlantic Public Media, and sponsored by The Nature Conservancy and the Public Radio Exchange.
